Nepal 2014

This will be the fourth expedition run by the Lewisham North Scout Groups since 2006. The previous expeditions have seen over 100 Scouts from South East London trek to over 5000 metres in the Himalayas, white water down raging rivers, safari on the backs of elephants and support a charity in the capital Kathmandu.

Nepal 2014 is the next installment in the adventure. This time the expedition explores an area which sees little tourism compared with the previous expeditions – The Langtang Valley. It offers an insight to rural Nepali life and the route takes us through some pristine Tamang and Sherpa villages, complete with Himalayan yaks!

The expedition will attempt to summit two Himalayan mountains – Kyanjing Ri (4500 metres) and Trseko Ri (4980 metres). This be a challenging and enormously rewarding expedition for everyone involved.

After the trekking we will embark on a day’s white water rafting before heading to Chitwan National Park where they will go on an elephant back safari and have the opportunity to feed and wash the elephants.

We will then head back to Kathmandu where they will visit a Non-Government Funded (NGO) project - Education, Protection and Help for Children (EPHC) was set up to help the poorest and most vulnerable people in Kathmandu. By day the building is used as a school and in the evening it is used to run classes for adults. We will support this NGO by providing much needed children’s clothes and books.
